The Cambridge Immerse Biology course is perfect for those considering studying Biology at university level. As well as consolidating students’ existing understanding of Biology at an A-level / IB level, the course introduces students to more advanced topics and debates that will not only spur intellectual curiosity, but will also assist in preparing to study the discipline at leading universities.
Academic Content & Learning Objectives
Students will learn the fundamental principles of Biological Sciences in small groups that ensure that the needs of each student are addressed. In addition to covering material that is learnt at the A-level and IB-level, students are also taught advanced university-level topics by highly regarded tutors in a way that is easy to understand. This unique approach to learning equips students with the intellectual curiosity that is vital for studying Biology at the undergraduate level.
At the fundamental level, Biology is concerned with understanding the laws that govern interactions from the molecular level to the level of the cells, individuals and populations, and the Cambridge Immerse course provides an unparalleled course that explores these key tenets. In addition, the course encompasses the past and current debates occurring within the discipline, exploring the concepts of the philosophy of science and Darwin’s theory of evolution, which has been the main a point of contentious debate between scientists and religious believers. Students will also study the contributions of leading biologists including the eminent Professor Dawkins, one of the world’s leading scientists and author of ‘The God Delusion’ amongst others, and learn to debate the current assumptions and assertions within the field.
If you are interested in studying Biology at university, then the Cambridge Immerse curriculum will enable you to delve into specific fields of interest through a group project that culminates in a presentation to the rest of the class.
Within the interview skills workshops, students will gain an insight into the core skills required for access to the top universities. These workshops developing the confidence and intellectual tenacity required to tackle some of the key questions that might be asked during interview, in addition to addressing debates surrounding some of the most pertinent issues within the discipline at the moment. The Interview Skills workshops are included within the fee for Cambridge Immerse, though attendance is optional.
Personal Statements (Optional)
Over the duration of the Cambridge Immerse course, students will have the opportunity to develop drafts of their personal statements required for access to the top universities across the world with the expertise and assistance of highly regarded tutors.
