The Cambridge Immerse Geography course is perfect for those considering studying Geography at university level. As well as consolidating students’ existing understanding of Geography at A-level / IB level, the course introduces students to more advanced topics and debates that will not only spur intellectual curiosity, but assist in preparing to study the discipline at leading universities.
Academic Content & Learning Objectives
Geography can truly be described as a ‘multidisciplinary’ course, encompassing the arts, social sciences and natural sciences. The Cambridge Immerse Geography course is distinctive in its focus upon the inherent interrelationships between the physical and human environment, equipping students with a solid foundational knowledge which is then complemented by specific insights into topics that might be explored at the university level.
Some of the topics explored within the course include the challenges that we face today such as environmental change, global justice and globalisation, encouraging students to debate these challenging issues and formulate articulate and coherent responses with their peers.
Tutorials are often lively and filled with passionate debates with a central focus on empirical research. The course also incorporates debate-focused seminars and tutorials that focus on various contemporary sub-topics within Geography, which often have a strong connection with other disciplines, including Economics, Political Science and other social sciences.
Within the interview skills workshops, students will gain an insight into the core skills required to successfully articulate their viewpoints in a pressured environment. These workshops focus upon developing the confidence and intellectual tenacity required to tackle some of the key questions that might be asked during interview, in addition to addressing debates surrounding some of the most pertinent issues within the discipline at the moment. The Interview Skills workshops are included within the fee for Cambridge Immerse, though attendance is optional.
Personal Statements (Optional)
Over the duration of the Cambridge Immerse course, students will have the opportunity to develop drafts of their personal statements required for access to universities across the world with the expertise and assistance of highly regarded tutors. Students learn techniques to concisely demonstrate their interest in a particular discipline. The Personal Statement workshops are included within the fee for Cambridge Immerse, though attendance is optional.
Thinking Skills Assessment (Optional)
The Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) Cambridge is a 2-hour pre-interview test for applicants to undergraduate courses at Cambridge and Cambridge University, designed to assist tutors in assessing whether candidates have the necessary skills and aptitudes. The TSA skills workshop is included within the fee for Cambridge Immerse, though attendance is optional.
